Heck with the Hair prices, I’m gonna charge more!

After working a bit on porting my sophisticate gown over to IMVU, I checked on the new hairstyles and noted three new ones by Occultbaby (she’s one of the best hair meshers), and decided to derive a few of them.  But this time I changed my strategy.

For the ‘Refaeli’ hairstyle, I decided to do only two colors and to raise my price.  Even though everyone and their dog prices hair in the 600 range, I don’t think my take of 134 credits from a hair will become profitable in the long run.  With that low a markup I’d need to sell six to seven hairs just to pay for my upload costs.  So, I listed them at 799 for a profit of 225.  It will only take four hairs to break even and I figure 100 credits won’t really phase people.

In fact, I’d be willing to bet that most people don’t really care about the price until it gets over 1000 IMVU credits.  Pretty much everything in the catalog has a three digit price… anything with four or more digits is seen as expensive.  But everyone is familiar with the adage ‘you get what you pay for’.  Items that are cheap are usually cheaply made and poor quality.  There are always exceptions to the rule, of course.

So, we’ll see if the higher price scares people away.  I think I’ll use the higher price for a while and see how it fares against the lower priced items.
