Stores in IMVU

Checking out a store in IMVU. Nodes near the clothes rack trigger a link to the item in the catalog.

IMVU is very different than Second Life in that there are no permanent areas like the worlds and continents in Second Life.  Instead there are chat rooms which people can visit.  Because of this there are no permanent stores for creators to sell their wares.  Instead, everything is sold in the massively overwhelming IMVU catalog.

However, I did run into a few public chat rooms that were set up to be stores.  There is some way that they have nodes set up that if you stand on ones next to the clothes racks, you are linked to the catalog item and can try it on.  That’s pretty cool.  You could actually make a store and host it 24/7… but most users will still go to the catalog.

Only problem I found was that I couldn’t get the node links to work.  I’m not sure if the Mac client was giving it fits, or it just wasn’t working for me.   Either way, actual stores are an option we may want to keep and eye on.
